How to add a search bar to your Wix site
The built-in app, a custom search with code, or a dedicated search app: step-by-step instructions for each, and how to choose.
There are three ways to put a search bar on a Wix site. Which one fits depends on what you need to search and how you want results to look.
Option 1: Wix Site Search (built in, free)
Wix's own app is the quickest start and costs nothing.
- In the Wix editor, open the app market and search for Wix Site Search.
- Add it to your site. Wix adds a search bar element and a search results page.
- Drag the search bar into your header so it appears on every page.
- Adjust its design in the element's settings, then publish.
Good for: simple sites with standard pages, a store and a blog. Limits: suggestions and results use Wix's own layout, CMS collections and dynamic pages may not be searchable, and new content depends on Wix's index updating.
Option 2: A custom search with Velo (for developers)
With Velo, Wix's coding platform, a developer can build a search input that queries your CMS collections and shows results in a repeater. It's fully flexible, but you have to write and maintain the code, and each content type (products, posts, pages, collections) needs its own query.
Good for: sites with a developer and very specific requirements.
Option 3: A search app such as Findbar
A dedicated search app gives you more than the built-in search without writing code. With Findbar:
- Click Add to Wix, choose your site and approve.
- In the editor, add the Findbar search bar from your installed apps and drag it into the header. A search results page is added for you.
- Remove the old Wix search bar so visitors don't see two, then publish.
Findbar indexes your products, blog posts, pages and CMS collections, shows grouped suggestions (products with image and price) directly under the bar as visitors type, and updates when you change content.

| Wix Site Search | Velo custom search | Findbar | |

Tips for any search bar
- Put it in the header. Visitors look for search at the top of the page, and the header shows on every page.
- Check it on mobile. Make sure the bar is visible and easy to tap on phones, where most store visitors browse.
- Use a helpful placeholder, like "Search products, recipes…", so visitors know what they can find.
- Look at what people search for. Searches that return nothing tell you which products or pages visitors expect but can't find.
Want a search bar that just works? Findbar puts an inline search bar in your Wix header with instant suggestions for products, blog posts, pages and CMS items, and keeps its index up to date as you edit. Free for sites with up to 100 items.
